First I would like to say that this is one of the best
and most interesting jazz albums coming from Turkey. The young
Turkish pianist, a master of improvisation, revises works
of C. Bley, C. Corea, J. Garbarek, E. Gismonti, Debussy and
others alongside her own compositions with her group consisting
of four percussionists and the bass clarinetist Oguz Büyükberber.
The pianist called this work of her Variations apparently
to point out that she handled her materials at hand with quite
a big freedom and creating her own unique original interpratation.
In the end she succeeds to reach an interesting balance between
composition and improvisation, which is worth listening to.

Austria Samba Agirlamasi is another of the outstanding
pieces of the album. Though the theme comes from Egberto Gismonti,
Ayse Tütüncü imbues it with a uniquely novel character. It
soars on with an improvisatory wealth of sounds complete with
reflections from Turkish music.
