Pianist Tütüncü,
joined by the ferocious clarinetist Oguz Büyükberber, elegantly
tips her hat to Carla Bley on this album of improvisations on
Latin and other source material, including Debussy and Chick
Corea. At times pretty and playful, pugnacious and confrontational,
Tütüncü is a conceptualist of a high order and Çesitlemeler (Variations) transcends East-West stereotypes.
Down Beat,
December 2002 / USA
A delicious record, where technical prowess and knowledge of
different traditions don't hamper the flow of joyous, living
music.
Francesco Martinelli, Avant,
Spring 2000 / England
...but the true magic lies in their incredible improvisations.
Crisscrossing the Jazz line for forays into our local motifs,
latin tunes or blues, the group easily infuses the audience
with its joyful energy.
Raife Polat, Jazz,
3/1999 / Turkey
